Safari from Deceased Gorillas

About Safari

25 Oct 2008

Safari was an Adult Female in the Rugendo Family - and one of the 5 victims of the massacre in July 2007. She was quite an aggressive gorilla towards us, the Rangers - but this is because she was defending her children, Bavukahe, Ndeze and Kongomani. She would often cry out in a high pitch when we approached.

Safari became known to the world when she gave birth to Ndeze in February 2007.

Ndeze is now one of 2 mountain gorilla orphans in Congo.

May Safari Rest In Peace.

Safari is buried with other gorillas at Rumangabo, in Virunga National Park
